Anatomy of The Stick Queen

The crown which adorns the Stick Queen was inspired by Melissa's mother who referred to her as the Queen but only after one of her Ex-boy friends referred to her (even to this day) as Princess. The flowing cloak is reference to a former therapist who one day asked Melissa where her cape was during a session making reference to Melissa's tough demeanor as a super hero.

“The Stick Queen Dons Her Armor & Readies for the Day”

Conceptually, the Queen is filled with psychological complexities at least with regard to the typical Queen persona,  The crown in my illustrations are directly attributable to one Queen in particular who enjoyed being elevated to royalty.  One boyfriend always, and to this day, referred to her as “Princess”. Clearly he had not realized her full majestic stature.  the Cloak, on the other hand, has its roots in related story  whereby one Queen’s therapist  had her during a session, where her cape was.  She was referring to the Queen’s protectionist facade projecting a super hero.  The rest has become a bit of historic relevance but in my experience there are lots of Kings and Queens who fit this personality type.
